Mark Boucher is set to return to Smith & Williamson Investment Management to take up the role of head of UK equities.

Mr Boucher’s arrival at the company later this month has meant that Charles Deptford has left Smith & Williamson. He had co-managed the Enterprise fund, the Enterprise Trust, the UK Equity Growth fund and the UK Equity Income fund.

Mr Boucher, who left the firm in 2009, will now co-manage the hedge fund Enterprise fund and the UK Equity Growth fund with Mark Fleming. Mark Swain has been named as the lead manager on the UK Equity Income fund “for the foreseeable future”.

David Cobb, head of investment management and banking at Smith & Williamson, said: “Mark Boucher is a very experienced fund manager with an excellent track record and this, combined with his knowledge and understanding of Smith & Williamson, makes him an important hire for us.”

While Mr Deptford was co-manager, from June 4 2009, the UK Equity Growth fund returned 44.7 per cent compared to the IMA UK All Companies sector average return of 58 per cent, according to FE Analytics.

Since he was made co-manager of the UK Equity Income fund in October 2009, it returned 26.4 per cent compared to the IMA UK Equity Income sector average return of 34.9 per cent, the data provider added.
