The S&P 500 has touched the 2,000 mark but has yet to close above it, according to FTAdviser sister title Fast FT.

The index finished up 0.5 per cent at 1,997.94 after rising as high as 2,001.95 earlier on Monday (25 August). Touching the 2,000 mark is the latest milestone in a rally that began in March 2009 while the US was still in recession.

However, some analysts have warned that potential headwinds are growing for the S&P 500, including the prospect of tighter monetary policy in the US and a slowing in corporate share buybacks that have helped polish earnings and still slow revenue growth.
