Fund management group Artemis has launched three US equity funds, with two more to follow in the fourth quarter, to help match clients’ different investment goals and appetites for risk.

Cormac Weldon, lead fund manager, said: “Some parts of the American market are looking fully valued. But whether it is from the revolution in shale oil and gas or from innovation in the tech sector, I am seeing just as many attractive investment opportunities in North America as I have throughout my 25-year career.”

Key Features

• The Artemis US Equity Fund, managed by Mr Weldon, focuses on achieving long-term capital growth from a portfolio mainly made up of large and mid-cap stocks from North America.

• The Artemis US Select Fund, managed by Mr Weldon, invests in a relatively concentrated portfolio of the equity team’s “best ideas”.

• The Artemis US Extended Alpha Fund, managed by Stephen Moore, is designed to outperform the S&P 500 index and combines a long portfolio of US stocks with a portfolio of short positions.

Adviser verdict:

Simon Moore, head of research for Tilney Bestinvest, said: “You might think you wouldn’t want to short the US market (using the Artemis US Extended Alpha Fund) with the direction that it’s going in, but at some point you might want that breathing room for your clients.”
