Alex Funk to leave Schroders for Portfoliometrix
Alex Funk will join PortfolioMetrix in August. (Schroders)

Schroders' model portfolio chief investment officer will leave the company to take up a new role at Portfoliometrix.

Alex Funk is set to take over as head of investments at Portfoliometrix, taking over from Nic Spicer who has been in the role for 12 years.

Funk has been at Schroders Investment Solutions since it was launched in 2021 and prior to this was chief investment officer at Benchmark Capital

Before moving to the UK, he was chief executive at Cinnabar Investment Management in South Africa.

Portfoliometrix UK managing director Ben Peele said: “We’re very excited for Alex to join in the summer. His breadth of experience across MPS, multi-asset and insourced solutions will bring a different perspective and ensure that Portfoliometrix’s proposition keeps evolving.

"His proven track record on driving growth will help take our business to even greater heights."

Spicer is stepping back from the role to pursue a masters degree in sustainable energy futures but will remain a shareholder in the business.

The firm said he will run an "extensive handover process" to ensure Funk has a smooth transition into his new position.

A spokesperson for Schroders said its team-based approach to fund management meant client portfolios would not be affected by people leaving.

The Schroder Investment Solutions range will continue to be managed by Robert Starkey and Ryan Paterson.

The spokesperson said: "Alex Funk is leaving the business with our best wishes for the future. Robert Starkey and Ryan Paterson, portfolio managers, have co-managed the SIS range of funds and models since May 2021 and with £5.9bn assets under management, they will continue in their roles ensuring client-focused investment outcomes through active management."

The seven-strong team are part of the Schroders global multi-asset team of more than 140 investment professionals under the leadership of Schroders chief investment officer Johanna Kyrklund.
