Ashmore has launched three Chinese funds to take advantage of its recently-acquired award of RMB Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (RQFII) status by Chinese regulators.

The status allows Ashmore access to certain local Chinese markets and the asset manager is looking to leverage that access with a trio of Luxembourg-domiciled Sicav fund launches.

The firm is looking to launch the Ashmore Chinese Debt, Ashmore Chinese Equity and Ashmore Chinese Multi-Strategy funds.

The Debt fund will invest in both government and corporate bonds issued in renminbi, the Equity fund will invest in A-shares listed in Shanghai or Shenzen and the Multi-Strategy fund will look to blend the Equity and Debt strategies.

Ashmore is planning to launch sterling share classes for the funds, which will be accessible by UK retail investors, in the coming weeks.
