Old Mutual Global Investors has hired Russ Oxley who announced his departure from Ignis yesterday.

He will become head of fixed income-absolute return and will join with Huw Davies, Joshua Heming, Adam Purzitsky, Paul Shanta and Jin Wong. The team joins next year.

Mr Oxley will report to Julian Ide, chief executive of Old Mutual Global Investors.

The team will launch a new range of fixed income absolute return products, subject to regulatory approval, and Old Mutual Global Investors will open an office in Edinburgh to allow the team to be based in both Scotland and London.

The group said the capability would “greatly complement” those run by its existing nine strong fixed income team, which is headed by Christine Johnson, who reports to Stewart Cowley, investment director, fixed income and macro.

It added Mr Cowley “played a primary role in the appointment of this new team” and that it was “confident that he will contribute to building an even stronger and more valuable investment franchise in the future”.

Mr Ide said the hires “clearly demonstrates that we are an attractive destination for top investment talent”.

“From the outset, we have retained and attracted the best investment talent offering compelling and reputable investment processes and track records, ‘star’ quality, strong cultural fit within the business and incremental distribution benefits,” he said.

“By adding the investment skills of this new team to our existing highly regarded team, we will have one of the asset management industry’s most powerful fixed income operations.”

The group last year hired Deepa Abraham as a senior credit analyst to work alongside Bastian Wagner and Simon Prior also joined the team as a credit analyst.
