March 2010: Regulator publishes discussion paper DP10/2, Platforms: Delivering the RDR

November 2010: Publication of CP10/29, Platforms: Delivering the RDR and Other Issues for Platforms and Nominee-Related Services’.

February 2010: FSA consultation on CP10/29 closes. Policy Statement expected a few months later. Eventually it comes out in August.

August 2011 The FSA publishes PS11/9 Platforms: Delivering the RDR and Other Issues for Platforms and Nominee-Related Services.

June 2012 The FSA publishes CP12/12, Payments to Platform Service Providers and Cash Rebates from Providers to Consumers. It proposed to introduce the rules on 31 December 2013. After more than 80 responses, the FSA said it would consult further.

January 1 2013 The retail distribution review comes into force without any clarity on platform pricing.

26 April 2013 Long-awaited policy statement on rebates gives clarity on how these are to be treated.

6 April 2014 Rules come into effect, with two-year transitional period.

6 April 2016 End of two-year transitional period. Platforms must now charge customers a platform charge for both new and existing business.
