It was dusk on Sunday evening in London SE11 when Alistair Cook hoisted the Ashes above his head. England were victorious over Australia and the Ashes had been retained.

Although the 3-0 scoreline looks rather one-sided, Michael Clarke’s team will take some real heart from the series after running England close in four of the five test matches and will consider themselves unlucky not to have won at least one test.

And there is barely time to catch a breath before both teams reconvene in three months Down Under and we do it all again in the Brisbane sunshine. England must be favourites but the hosts will provide a sterner test on their own patch with a raucous home support.

So congratulations to England on their victory and congratulations also to Colin Bowler from Brown Bevan Financial Services Ltd in Derby who was the winner of the fifth test match competition and is now the proud recipient of a signed bat from England batsman Jonathan Trott, courtesy from MetLife.
