First we welcomed Michael Vaughan and his team (plus celebrity friends Tim Henman and Jamie Redknapp) to the finish line of his epic PruProtect Chance to Ride charity cycle, which took him from Leeds to London via all five one day cricket matches between England and Australia.

With camera crews from Sky Sports and many more at the Oval cricket ground, an exhausted but elated Vaughan completed his marathon charity ride, having raised funds for both the Chance to Shine and Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in an event PruProtect were proud to have sponsored.

No sooner had we toasted Michael’s success, we were popping yet more corks at the launch of our Vitality Optimiser product – the first protection product in the UK to give dynamic pricing and annual cashback to consumers. As well as over 300 intermediaries, Lord Sebastian Coe joined us at the prestigious Savoy hotel where he confirmed his excitement at joining the Vitality Advisory Board and gave his invaluable input into the ongoing development of the product.

We then toured our launch show around the UK, visiting Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff and many other destinations where more than 1,500 advisers flocked to see our latest innovations – including the latest enhancements to our Serious Illness Cover product which now covers ALL heart attacks, ALL strokes and more cancers than any other UK insurer.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also just published our first set of claims paid statistics, demonstrating that in 2012 we paid 97% of Life claims, 93% of Serious Illness claims and 94% for Income Protection. Fantastic numbers, showing that our policies perform when they are really needed.

Exciting times, as I say!

I’ll leave you with an anecdote which Lord Coe shared with us at the Savoy, relating to a time when he was taken to a provincial football match as a guest of one of the team’s sponsors.

As they got to the entrance to the ground, an officious steward looked at Lord Coe’s ticket; “sorry you can’t come in this gate with that ticket, you’ve got to go round there”. The sponsor was understandable indignant; “don’t you know who this? This is Lord Sebastian Coe! The man who brought the Olympics to Britain in 2012, the man who won Gold in the 1,500 metres at both the 1980 and 1984 Olympics!”

“Shouldn’t take him too long then, should it?” came the reply!
