Sants to head up private bank

Former FSA chief executive Sir Hector Sants has been appointed chairman of Swiss private bank Julius Baer International.

He took over the position on Wednesday 1 July, succeeding Gian Rossi.

Also vice-chairman and partner at global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, Sir Hector is leading a review into banking competition on behalf of the British Banking Association.

He was chief executive of the FSA between 2007 and 2012, his appointment coinciding with the collapse of Northern Rock and the start of the global banking crisis.

During his time leading the regulator he clashed with the Treasury select committee on several occasions, including his blunt refusal to extend the RDR’s deadline by a year.
