Santander customer loses almost £5k in fraud incident

"We are investigating the details outlined by our customer on social media as a matter of urgency and contacted them as soon as we were alerted to the case to discuss the issue further.”

Responding to Morgan’s social media posts, another Twitter user pointed out that a Pin reminder can be accessed within the Santander app and that if the fraudster could access the app, they could gain access to the pin.

When this was put to Santander, the bank said that “in-app card Pin reminders are a common feature among UK banking apps” and that depending on how a customer logs in to the app on their phone they would either need to enter a passcode or use their biometrics to gain access to the pin.

It is not yet clear how the fraudster was able to gain access to the banking app.
