Artificial intelligence is being deployed to tackle financial crime.

Financial crime software firm Themis has launched a new AI-powered chatbot .

CEO of Themis, Dickon Johnstone, said: "In the complex world of financial crime, we are deliberately, disruptively, different.

"By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, we aim to elevate the customer experience to new heights and set a new standard for excellence in our industry."

The AI chatbot is available at any time of the day or night and can deliver instant responses to queries.

However, it will be monitored by financial crime experts and can link users with agents who can answer any additional queries.

Lizzie Stewart, head of customer success at Themis, said: "Our chatbot integration underscores Themis's dedication to being a customer-centric, expert-led organisation.

"We recognise that the market needs not just a technological solution for compliance, but an anti-financial crime partner."

The firm said the development is important in the face of ever-changing approaches by fraudsters who now use AI to invent new frauds and scale up existing ones.

It said the existing technology used to fight financial crime is no longer enough.

Themis aims to reduce the global impacts of financial crime and its AML software helps organisations understand threats to security to customers, staff, suppliers and shareholders.

It also conducts research into the latest criminal threats, trends and techniques to uncover potential links to financial crime.
