In 2021 the Financial Conduct Authority enabled asset managers to launch long-term asset funds (LTAFs) by creating a new regulatory regime that stemmed from the need to solve the perennial liquidity mismatch that arises from daily dealing funds holding assets that are inherently illiquid, such as direct property, private equity and debt, and infrastructure.
