More than 200,000 have signed up to join Monzo's new investment platform which it is set to launch over the coming weeks.

The investment platform will give customers access to three Blackrock funds.

A post on Monzo's chat forum from Andy Smart, the company's saving and investing boss, has garnered thousands of comments with some would-be investors showing their position on the wait list, some with more than 220,000 people in front of them.

In his announcement, Smart said: "We want to get rid of the barriers that prevent people from investing, making it simple, affordable and delightful through the Monzo app.

"You’ll be able to choose from three ready-made funds from our partner BlackRock. We’ve chosen to work with them for their expertise as one of the world’s largest fund managers."

The three funds are called careful, balanced and adventurous.

Smart added: "We’ve incorporated key investing essentials into the product experience. While you don’t need to be an expert in investing to get started, we want to help people build their knowledge and confidence as they go."

People were invited to join the waitlist last week where they could access "bite-sized topics on investing essentials" while Monzo said it would be "letting folks in over the coming weeks".

Investors are expected to pay 0.59 per cent of their investment value in fees each year, billed monthly - Monzo said this is equivalent to 48p a month, assuming no growth or withdrawals.

Mozo premium customers get a more favourable 0.49 per cent fee rate which works out at 40p a month with £1,000 invested.

In the app, Monzo customers will be able to invest into a stocks and shares Isa, or a general investment account.
