Those who class themselves as extremely motivated in their current job are most likely to say that they are motivated by job satisfaction (52 per cent), followed equally by feeling respected, having a purpose and good working relationships (all 37 per cent).
Crucially, the research found being unmotivated reduced productivity levels in half of employees (48 per cent).
Conclusion
There is no golden ticket for employers looking to increase productivity within their business.
The strategies outlined above – investing in technology, flexible working and employee benefits – will all contribute to an uplift in productivity levels, but employers should examine the issues facing their own workforce, ideally in consultation with workers themselves.
By examining their own organisation, they will be able to create a plan that identifies areas for improvement.
Furthermore, consulting with employees will boost engagement levels and generate a positive effect – employees will feel like they are being listened to and have a role to play in effecting real change within their organisation.
In many ways, engagement and dialogue with their staff is the first step for any employer looking to improve
