Waspi receives grant from political reform trust

The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign has been granted almost £37,000 by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.

A spokesperson for Waspi said the grant would be used to further the political campaigning against government changes to the state pension age for women born in the 1950s.

This will include preparations for a potential legal challenge to the government's changes, which saw the state pension age rise from 60 to as high as 66 for some women.

The changes caught many women by surprise, leaving some facing financial hardship as a result.

The Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust provides funding to political campaigns that promote democratic reform, civil liberties and social justice.

The trust was founded by Joseph Rowntree, a nineteenth century Quaker businessman and member of the Liberal Party.

It is a limited company rather than a charity, and does not fund causes that are eligible for charitable funding.

Jane Cowley, Fundraising Director of WASPI said, "We are enormously grateful that JRRT have given us these funds which will cover the expenses of our political campaign for the next six months.

"Having this funding means that we can get the support we need to get our point of view heard by decision makers at government level."
