Former Artemis manager Alex Illingworth has joined Harwood Capital Management and has plans to launch a global equity business at the firm.

Illingworth, who has more than 25 years experience in the global equity sector, managed the Artemis Global Select fund and the £500mn Mid Wynd International Investment trust alongside Simon Edelsten,

In his new role, he is set to hire a team to join him ahead of the strategy being launched later this year.

He told FTAdviser that initially he will work alongside Harwood founder Christopher Mills on the management of the existing products, but later in the year intends to launch an global listed equity open-ended fund.

His intention is for this fund to be run along similar lines to those he worked on at Artemis.

He added that given Harwood's history as an investment trust manager, and his own previous career as an investment trust manager, he and Harwood may launch such a product in future.

Mills said: “It’s rare to get the chance to bring someone of Alex’s reputation and experience into the business. The global equity sector offers opportunities for good managers to generate outstanding long-term risk-adjusted returns for clients and I am confident that with the plans Alex has drawn up we can carve a strong presence in this competitive sector.”
