Keith Carby apppointed as non-executive director and chairperson of Harbour Rock Capital

Kent-based financial adviser and discretionary fund manager Harbour Rock Capital has appointed Keith Carby as non-executive director and chairperson, subject to regulatory approval.

Carby has had a long career in financial services, first joining Hambro Life in 1981, which later became Allied Dunbar Assurance, where he progressed to sales director and then managing director.

After this, he moved to be one of the three founders and managing director of J Rothschild Assurance (now St James’s Place) in 1991.

Industry veteran Carby co-founded the financial services forum in 1997 and served as chairperson and CEO of Inter-Alliance Group plc from 2002.

In 2005, he took on the role as non-executive director of the Tenet Group.

Later that year, he co-founded Foster Denovo Group, serving as non-executive chairperson until 2017. 

In 2007, he also became CEO of Openwork, where he founded Omnis Investments. 

Harbour Rock Capital is a specialist financial advisory business based in Rochester in Kent, which focuses on pensions and retirement. 

With around 160 staff, it looks after over £600mn in pension assets for around 12,000 clients.

Paul Dunne, chief executive officer of Harbour Rock Capital, said: “Keith’s industry reputation is unparalleled and I’m excited to be working with him again. 

“Keith has a huge amount of knowledge and experience that will be extremely valuable as we grow and develop the business.”

Carby also became non-executive chairperson of mortgage intermediary Censeo Financial which remains the case to date.

In 2009, he went on to co-found Caerus Capital, which was purchased by Intrinsic (now part of Quilter plc) in 2017, where he served as CEO.

He was a founding non-executive director of Metro Bank plc between 2010 and 2019.

In 2018, Keith founded AdAlpha Solutions, which was purchased by AJ Bell plc in 2021 where he acted as chairperson and in 2023, he became joint founder and non-executive chairperson of House, a new estate agent. 

Dunne added: “Following the appointment of Chris Wood as compliance director earlier this year and the more recent appointment of Jonathan Purle as non-executive director, this [appointment] represents the next significant step in a period of important progress for the business.”
