Aviva Investors’ head of multi-asset Justin Onuekwusi is set to join Legal & General Investments, Investment Adviser can reveal.

Mr Onuekwusi ran five risk-rated multi-asset funds for Aviva Investors, where he has worked for three years prior to the announcement of his departure earlier this month.

His move could signal L&G Investments’ intention to add to its multi-asset investment team.

The company currently has the £101m L&G Worldwide fund, £43.8m L&G Distribution fund and the £31.7m L&G Global Growth fund in the IMA Mixed Investment sectors. All three are managed by Kevin Chessum, who has been at the group for more than 30 years.

L&G confirmed Mr Onuekwusi’s hire but said it could not comment further.

At Aviva Investors, Peter Fitzgerald has been promoted from co-head of multi-manager to head of the company’s multi-asset team. He will co-manage the five funds previously run by Mr Onuekwusi, alongside Nick Samouilhan.

Mr Fitzgerald said the change “allows the team to focus on growing external assets and focus on the retail funds”.

Ian Aylward, co-head of multi-manager alongside Mr Fitzgerald, will now be head of multi-manager research.
