Abbey for Intermediaries, appearing in the middle of the two star ranking. will not be pleased to have lost its four-star rating from last year.

However, its average over the last five years has been 2.2 stars, so it is at least familiar with this ranking. Santander also only made a two-star appearance, after gaining three stars last year, the first time it appeared in the rankings.

Woolwich’s service was rated poorer this year, having managed three stars last year, and now making it towards the bottom of the two star ranking.

Clydesdale and Accord will be disappointed, both having lost their three-star rating.

One-star providers: Very poor service is on the rise

The one-star category saw an increase from four to five lenders providing poor service this year.

Two, Newcastle Building Society and GE Money Home Lending, were non-movers.

Newcastle has struggled to achieve good service over the last few years, and only achieved average service once in the history of the awards. Since then it has been one star or two stars.

GE Money Lending has consistently remained in the one star category over the four years, and has shown no sign of improvement.

Barclays – which is still voted on by advisers even though its mortgages are sold under the Woolwich brand – managed two stars last year, was also noted as having poorer service this year.
