Schroders has appointed Rory Bateman as head of UK and European equities, replacing the departing Richard Buxton in the UK role.

Mr Bateman is currently head of European equities but will now oversee Schroders’ UK and European equities teams, which includes including Kevin Murphy and Nick Kirrage who run the Schroder Recovery and Schroder Income funds.

As part of the move the UK and European value equity teams for which Mr Bateman is now responsible have been combined into a single team, dubbed the ‘value’ team.

Peter Harrison, global head of equities, said: “The combination of our value investors in the UK and Europe into a single team will leverage better our research and skills in an area where we already have a strong presence.”

Mr Bateman will continue to manage four Luxembourg-based European equity products.

Richard Buxton, previously head of UK equities at Schroders, is set to join Old Mutual Global Investors in June, along with colleagues Errol Francis and Ed Meier.

Jupiter’s Philip Matthews will join Schroders in September to take over the management of Mr Buxton’s Schroder UK Alpha Plus fund.
