Ms Georgiou, who came to the UK to study business finance and complete her degree, said she had been “looking forward” to starting a career in banking but found it impossible to get a job.
She said: “While studying was exciting, reality hit when my job applications got rejected one after another. The feedback I was getting was ‘not enough work experience’, which was disappointing.
Ms Georgiou said she was discussing mortgage advice with a friend when the words financial adviser came into the conversation.
She said: “I was aware of what a financial adviser was but didn’t really know what they did. After I looked into I became convinced this is what I wanted to do as a career. I came across the FAS, applied and was called for an interview.
“I wasn’t that hopeful but I postponed my move back to Cyprus just to see what the outcome would be. I had received some words of encouragement during the interview. To my surprise a few days later I received a call confirming my place on the course, and here I am.”
Six months on she has passed R01 and is preparing for R05.
