Readers may agree the television advert with Ben Miller (of Armstong and Miller fame) trying to haggle a discount off his cornflakes at the supermarket till is annoying, but apparently it’s something that we all should be doing a lot more of.

Topcashback.co.uk claims that people could be saving £415 a year if they would only negotiate more. The best places to find a good deal are over big ticket items, such as cars, or when an item is damaged, and also when renewing contracts for mobile phones or insurance policies.

Apparently we are all too reserved. Perhaps it’s time to renew that phone contract.
