Henderson hires Threadneedle's Cielinski as credit head exits

Columbia Threadneedle global fixed income head Jim Cielinski has left the asset manager to join Janus Henderson.

Mr Cielinski, who has spent 30 years in investment management and joined Threadneedle in 2010, will become Janus Henderson's global head of fixed income on November 1. His responsibilities will include growing a bond team that already includes Janus' Bill Gross.

In light of Mr Cielinski's departure, Columbia Threadneedle has promoted Colin Lundgren, who served as his deputy, to the global fixed income head role. Mark Burgess, deputy global chief investment officer, will continue to provide regional oversight of the London-based fixed income teams.

Meanwhile Stephen Thariyan, head of credit at Henderson since 2007, is to leave the firm next March. Mr Thariyan has handed over his portfolios, including the £500m Sterling Bond trust, to colleagues.

Janus global chief investment officer Enrique Chang said of the hire of Mr Cielinski: "The addition of Jim is a testament to Janus Henderson’s ability to attract a strong team of global investment professionals committed to delivering superior risk-adjusted returns for clients."
