Former JP Morgan bond boss joins insurer

Nick Gartside, who left his role as international chief investment officer for bonds at JP Morgan Asset Management last week, is to join insurance firm Munich Re as chief investment officer.

Mr Gartside had jointly run a range of bond funds at JP Morgan, before departing last week. He had worked at the firm since 2010, and prior to that was employed by Schroders and Mercury Asset Management. He was head of fixed income at Schroders.

In his new role, starting on March 18, Mr Gartside will have overall responsibility for the asset management function at Munich Re.

He will also be a member of the management committee of Munich Re as a new board division has been created.

Joachim Wenning, chairman of the board of management at Munich Re, said the move was designed to optimise returns.

He said: "We are convinced we can further optimise the risk-return-profile of our investment portfolio. An essential pre-requisite to achieve this is to centralise results responsibility."

JP Morgan meanwhile promoted a long-standing colleague of Mr Gartside, Ian Stealey, to the role of international chief investment officer for bonds. He had previously worked as a bond fund manager with Mr Gartside.
