Cardy made redundant by Defaqto

Gill Cardy, who founded the former trade body IFA Centre, has been made redundant from her position at research consultancy Defaqto.

According to Ms Cardy, when she was taken on in January 2015, her title was insight consultant and her role was to focus on platforms with discussions around writing, presenting, reports, consultancy focusing on that area, as well as retirement income subjects.

However, Ms Cardy said: "The consultancy element of my work reduced to nothing within the first year and now the business wishes to focus on star ratings and panel research work.

"While they offered for me to stay, that wasn’t what I wanted, nor where I considered my strengths to lie."

It is understood Ms Cardy is the only person being made redundant at Defaqto, and there is no restructuring of other roles at the research consultancy.

Defaqto was asked to comment but failed to do so prior to publication of this article.

Ms Cardy, a chartered financial planner and fellow of the Personal Finance Society, founded the IFA Centre after the Retail Distribution Review, in a bid to support sole traders who wanted to remain independent, rather than take a restricted path.

At the time, the IFA Centre aimed to represent those whom the changing Association of Professional Financial Advisers - soon to merge with the Wealth Management Association - no longer focused on primarily.

Before setting up the IFA Centre, which closed at the tail end of 2014 as a result of lack of funding, Ms Cardy was principal of her own, fee-based financial planning firm, Professional Partnerships, until 2008.

Ms Cardy was also a weekly columnist in FTAdviser's sister title Financial Adviser for several years.
