Sanlam Investments appoints head of investment and risk

Sanlam Investments has appointed Chris Rodgers to the role of head of investment and risk.

Rodgers is currently head of UK equities at the firm, and was previously a founding partner at Four Capital, which was acquired by Sanlam in 2014.

Before setting up Four Capital, Rodgers spent 20 years at Schroders before moving to HSBC Asset Management as head of UK equities.

In his new role, he will step back from portfolio management and will have responsibility for all the direct investment teams as well as investment performance and risk.

Sanlam Investments is an asset manager and fund business, which is part of Sanlam. It runs just under £7bn across single strategy and long only funds, as well as specialist multi-asset solutions and captive fund solutions.

Haydn Franckeiss, chief executive of Sanlam Investments, said: “I am delighted to welcome Chris as a key member of our management team. His considerable experience, both managing money and in leading investment teams, makes him ideally qualified for this role.”

Rodgers said: “I am fortunate that we have such a strong team of experienced and talented fund managers, and wider investment teams, here at Sanlam. I’m looking forward to this next challenge, and to ensuring we continue to deliver strong investment performance for our clients.”

In October last year the head of asset management at the firm told FTAdviser it is looking to go back to being a pure asset manager following the sale of Sanlam’s wealth and life business.

Tom Carroll said: “We’re not going to turn into a Blackrock or Schroders overnight. We've got to continue to focus on where we can add differentiated, specialist products for our clients.”
