Martin Tilley, director of technical services at Sipp provider, Dentons Pensions, has had a brilliant idea for changing the public image of financial advisers.

Forget trying to get facetime with government ministers, or lobbying the consumer press.

The real targets should be scriptwriters of the soaps. Mr Tilley said there should be a plotline involving a character losing his pension, and realising he should have gone to a financial adviser.

He added: “We should get people to learn from other people’s mistakes. Soaps seem very real.”

A cliffhanger with pensions in it? The stuff that dreams are made of.
