UBS Global Asset Management (UBS Gam) UK managing director Ian Barnes is to become chief executive of investment firm Veritas.

Mr Barnes, who is still currently at UBS Gam, will take on the new role at the £12bn fund house in early 2017.

The role of chief executive is a newly-created position for Veritas and will see him take on the day-to-day management of the firm. He will also be part of the Managing Partners Board - alongside the firm’s existing partners Charles Richardson, Andy Headley, Ezra Sun and Richard Grant.

Mr Barnes was head of UK and Ireland for UBS Gam since 2012 and been responsible for both product innovation and distribution. He previously spend 11 years at Russell Investments.

Mr Richardson said: “We believe [Mr Barnes] will broaden and complement the existing management and leadership team within the Managing Partners Board.

“Ian’s appointment will ensure that key investors remain focused on investing for our clients, while providing the leadership to fulfil the long term objectives for our firm – investment excellence, client service, retention of high calibre people and measured organic growth."
